MARGAO: The Fatorda police
have informed the Block Development Officer (BDO), Margao, to appear at the police station for an inquiry pertaining to his complaint about a file that went missing from his office.
According to police sources, the BDO has been summoned to the police station on January 24. A police complaint has been lodged regarding the missing file, but no offence has been registered yet.
The missing file is from the year 1991. An RTI application was forwarded to the BDO’s office, for which they needed the file, but a search revealed that it was missing. The BDO lodged a complaint at the Margao police station, which was later sent to the Fatorda PS, as the office falls within its jurisdiction.
Sources said that police officers from Fatorda PS had visited the BDO in connection with the case a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the Salcete Mamlatdar has also filed a complaint over a missing file relating to the tenancy case of a Benaulim resident who was declared a tenant in 1978.
A resident of Gogol Housing Board had sought information about the file recently through an application under the RTI Act The Salcete Mamlatdar’s office realised that the file was missing when they searched for it, to respond to the RTI application.
When contacted, the Fatorda police said that based on the
complaint lodged by Laxmikant R Dessai (PIO) mamlatdar, Salcete, an offence under Section 380 of IPC was registered on
January 18. The complaint said that prior to February 23, 2022, an unidentified official or custodian from the office of the Salcete Mamlatdar had committed theft of the file pertaining to Case no. JM- 1 /mund /reg /Ben 629/78 from the office. The police said that the investigation is in a preliminary stage and that they would visit the office and conduct enquiries.
