Missing woman found dead in River Zuari

PONDA: The body of a 61-year-old woman from Simepayan-Mardol, who was reported missing since March 3, was found floating in River Zuari at Vazangal-Shiroda on Monday afternoon.

PONDA: The body of a 61-year-old woman from Simepayan-Mardol, who was reported missing since March 3, was found floating in River Zuari at Vazangal-Shiroda on Monday afternoon. 
According to Ponda Police, the body of Johana Juliana Gonsalves was found in a highly decomposed state and police had a tough task in identifying the body as that of the missing woman and had to call on the help  of the daughter of the deceased to make a positive identification. 
“Initially, police found it difficult to identify the body, as it was in a highly decomposed state. We called the daughter of the deceased, who had filed the missing re the one who had filed the missing report at Ponda Police station on March 3. 
The daughter managed to identify the body of her mother based onthe earrings found on the person of her mother,” informed police. 
Police suspect that Gonsalves might have committed suicide some 3-4 days back, as she was last seen at Raia-Loutolim by some relatives.
It is learnt that the deceased has two sons who are working abroad, besides the daughter who identified her remains.
Ponda Police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to morgue of the Sub District Hospital in Ponda for preservation. 
Ponda Police is further investigating the case.
