MARGAO: Roman script Konkani enthusiasts are set to converge for their second meeting, on June 15, in the Grace Church Hall in Margao, to devise strategies to overcome obstacles impeding the advancement of the language in the Roman script.

Their agenda includes discussions aimed at addressing the divisions within the community that have hampered the progress of Konkani.

Domnic Fernandes, a Konkani activist, said that they have issued a heartfelt appeal to all the people of Goa, urging their participation in the meeting to deliberate on the issue and formulate an action plan.

“We are anticipating the attendance of Konkani writers, avid readers, dedicated workers and individuals closely associated with the Konkani language in the Roman script,” he added.

The meeting serves as a platform for Roman script Konkani enthusiasts to come together and address crucial issues.

The organisers had extended a heartfelt appeal to the Konkani community, urging the members to participate in large numbers and deliberate on the issue by formulating an action plan.

Through collaborative efforts and open dialogue, the group endeavours to foster unity and cooperation among Konkani proponents, for a more cohesive approach to promote the language in the Roman script.

With a shared passion for preserving and enhancing Konkani’s presence in written form, these enthusiasts seek to chart a path forward that maximises inclusivity and collaboration. 

The meeting would represent a significant step towards revitalising and strengthening Konkani in the Roman script, reflecting their commitment to its continued relevance and vitality.

It is pertinent to note that during their inaugural meeting, they had unanimously advocated for including the Roman script of Konkani in Goa’s Official Language Act. They underscored the collective belief in the importance of formal recognition for the Roman script as a legitimate and integral part of Konkani language and culture.

Furthermore, the group had pledged to set aside differences and unite in their efforts to promote Konkani in the Roman script. Recognising the importance of solidarity, they had emphasised the need for cohesive action, pooling resources and engaging in advocacy efforts to secure the rightful status for the Roman script.
