CORTALIM: Clarifying the reported statement of Loutolim Sarpanch opposing the diversion of heavy traffic through Loutolim, former Cortalim deputy sarpanch and Panch Raymond De Sa said that villagers of Cortalim had demanded the diversion of heavy traffic from Vasco proceeding to Ponda and vice versa via Nuvem-Fatorda and not through Loutolim.
“There appears to be a misunderstanding. Even at a meeting called by the Minister Alina Saldanha with the officials on Friday, the plan discussed was to use the Nuvem-Fatorda by-pass till the highway connecting Verna Industrial Estate to Borim was completed,” De Sa told Herald.
Former sarpanch Anton Joao Fernandes in a press release also affirmed that the demand was to divert the traffic via Nuvem.
This was also confirmed by Alina’s office that the heavy traffic is to be diverted through Nuvem -Fatorda by-pass.
Meanwhile, some villagers have alleged that heavy traffic had already started plying on Thana-Loutolim road on Saturday and demanded that traffic police be stationed permanently to stop the heavy traffic from plying on this road.
The opposition to the heavy traffic using the narrow Thana-Loutolim road gained momentum after a Cortalim school girl came under the wheels of a tanker on Wednesday that killed her instantly.
