There was a mixed response from members to the government functioning on the third and last day of the discussion on motion of thanks on governor’s address to the House.
Speaking on the occasion Fatorda MLA Damu Naik described the government as the government of frauds, and said, irregularities have reached beyond tolerable level.
He flayed the government for indulging into wasteful expenditure on publicity materials. Spending Rs 11.16 crore on such a matter alone in 2008, was sheer waste of public money, he stated.
Naik also demanded removal of South Goa Collector G P Naik charging that he has been indulging in corrupt practices.
Listing out the alleged illegalities on Thursday, the BJP MLA charged that Naik is collecting money through coupons of Rs 5000. He also produced the same coupons in the House.
He further alleged that law and order situation has deteriorated in the State.
Speaking in favour of the motion, St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes made some suggestions to the government. She requested the government to increase the number of police out posts and police stations, particularly in the coastal belt.
Appreciating the efforts of the government in bringing about developments in the State, Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar said, the recently introduced EMRI (108) has been doing great service to the people.
He demanded appointment of more swimming coaches as there is only one coach for three swimming pools of the sports department. The present coach is not good at his job, and has been neglecting students, he charged.
Speaking on the Amendments moved by the Opposition, Sanguem MLA said, people in his constituency have to live with high level of mining pollution. Rivona village has become a mine of pollution.
Trucks transporting ore have been cause of traffic jams in the constituency, but the government is not bothered, he said.
Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar (MGP) demanded that pending demands of ST population should be fulfilled.
The Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar (BJP) also criticized the government while participating in the discussion.
