Mizoram, which conducted its single-phase polls on November 7, encountered a one-day delay in the vote counting process. The state witnessed an impressive 80.66 percent voter turnout during the polling day. While the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) held significant support in the state, the four-cornered contest also featured the BJP attempting to establish a presence. Although the influence of the Congress has diminished over the years, certain exit polls suggested a potential advantage for the grand-old party.
However, the people of Mizoram placed their trust in the youngest political party in the northeastern state and elected the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) to power.
A total of 174 candidates contested in the Mizoram Assembly election, with the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and Congress fielding candidates for all 40 seats each, while the BJP contested on 23 constituencies.
Approximately 4000 personnel were engaged in the vote counting process for the Mizoram assembly polls on December 3, as reported by Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas. The counting took place at 13 designated counting centers across the state.
