MARGAO: The Nationalist Congress Party MLA of Benaulim Churchill Alemao has attacked the South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha and Digambar Kamat for the scams and also for increasing the coal handling capacity in the State.
He alleged that the present South Goa MP was a part of the Marks scam while he was the State Education Minister and also part of the ICICI Bonds scam.
He also responded to the charged levelled against him by the MP on Wednesday by challenging to prove the allegations that he (Churchill) is corrupt and a smuggler.
He also made some other personal charges against the MP regarding financial transactions.
However, Churchill said that the Congress government led by the former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had increased the coal handling capacity in Goa.
“Don’t misguide the people of Goa,” he urged.
“When Kamat was the Chief Minister he had without taking Cabinet decision in 2009 given permission for additional 5.5 million metric tonnes of coal at the MPT berth,” alleged Churchill.
He said that while the government term was getting over another 5.2 million metric tonnes was allowed for coal handling at the MPT, which means the Congress government under the Chief Minister Kamat has increased 10 million metric tonnes of coal handling.
“Why didn’t you (Congress) oppose while you were in power or earlier? Now you are putting the people on the front to oppose?” asked Churchill, who incidentally was part of the then Cabinet led by Digambar as the PWD Minister.
