MLA discusses de-notification of Zuarinagar containment zone

VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana convened a special joint meeting to discuss the de-notification issue of Zuarinagar containment zone.

“The meeting was called to discuss the possibility of de-notifying the containment zone at Zuarinagar as there have been countless requests from the people in the containment zone to de-notify the same as they are facing a lot of hardship, especially the daily wage workers and other people working in the industrial units who fear of losing their jobs permanently,” stated the MLA in a press release.

“As per the deputy collector, the containment zone cannot be lifted since at present there are around 25-30 active cases within the containment zone and as per the SOPs/guidelines by the government there should not be a single case in the containment zone if the same needs to be de-notified,” Alina mentioned.

Furthermore, Saldanha impressed upon the deputy collector to make a thorough study of the containment zone with regards to the location of these positive cases so that if need be a micro containment zone may be made and exclude the areas having no cases, to which the deputy collector agreed to prepare the report and send the same to the collector and higher authority for necessary action.

The MLA said that as per the deputy collector, necessary essentials have been supplied to the people in the containment zone from time to time and requested the deputy collector to ensure that essential commodities are made available during Ganesh Chaturthi.

She also informed the authority to replenish the cash at the ATMs which have run out of money. The same will be done as assured by the deputy collector.

The MLA also requested the police inspector to ensure law and order within the containment zone, especially during the forthcoming Ganesh festival and asked to maintain strict vigil at the Ganesh idol immersion venues.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Collector of Mormugao and SDM Sachin Desai, Police Inspector Mohan Gaude, Police Sub-Inspector Shridhar Kamat and Panch members of Sancoale Panchayat Satish Padwalkar and Narayan Naik.
