MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal witnesses efforts to bridge the growing gap between the local panchayat body and gram sabha members, as Velim MLA Cruz Silva facilitated a meeting aimed at fostering unity. The meeting, held at the panchayat, focused on addressing existing issues and enhancing cooperation between the two groups.
MLA Silva, after carefully hearing the grievances of gram sabha members and understanding the perspectives of panchayat representatives led by Deputy Sarpanch Valente Fernandes, addressed the media. The primary objective of the meeting was to ensure the timely conclusion of gram sabha sessions, emphasising the importance of quick decision-making for implementing crucial development projects.
Expressing concern over prolonged gram sabha meetings, Cruz Silva highlighted instances of multiple adjournments that hinder the progress and development of Sao Jose de Areal. Despite recognising the limits of MLA interference in panchayat affairs, Silva said he took the initiative to bridge the gap for the village’s benefit.
Gram sabha member Freddy Travasso, in discussions with the media, stressed the importance of the panchayat acknowledging their oversight in neglecting proposals submitted by gram sabha members. While expressing a willingness to collaborate, Freddy called on the panchayat to demonstrate a commitment to the welfare of the people and the village. “A cooperative approach between the gram sabha and the panchayat is crucial for the overall well-being of the community,” he said.
