VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha along with PWD (NH), engineers, M/s Dilip Buildcon Ltd and the representatives of the consultant conducted a site inspection of road parallel to the ongoing works of Zuari Bridge at Vollant, where flooding took place due to recent rains.
In a press release, Saldanha said during the site inspection, the authorities present asserted that due to non-completion of works at Vollant, the flooding took place. They also said that due to the ongoing lockdown all works were held up for a month and hence DBL could not complete the work in time.
However, DBL has assured that now that the works have restarted, the mud filling work along the slip road and the construction of the retaining wall at Vollant will be taken up to ensure its completion before monsoon and all measures will be taken up to avoid flooding in the area.
The stretch of the road near Pazentar was also inspected where it was noticed that mud filling was carried out by a private party in the low lying area where a nullah exists and the cross drain across the National Highway was blocked. This could lead to major flooding in the area if the said mud is not cleared.
“I will inform the Mormugao Mamlatdar to look into this matter on an urgent basis,” Saldanha asserted.
The MLA also informed that at the meeting with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday, she emphasised to expedite the work on the stretch of the road from Cortalim Junction upto Kesarval slope, especially the drainage work to avoid flooding of the houses during this monsoon.
“The Chief Minister has assured me to look into the matter and direct the authorities accordingly,” Saldanha added.
Mahantesh Hiremath -Assistant Engineer – PWD, WD-XIV (NH), Arogya Swammy – Project Manager – M/s Dilip Buildcon Ltd, Raghudutt Panandikar, representative of the Consultant and the affected locals were present.
