MARGAO: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao on Tuesday slammed bullfight organisers for misbehaving and breaking all laws under the guise of love for sports and cautioned them not to expect any sympathy from the elected representatives.
Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vijai Sardesai without mincing any words said he could not help the bullfight organizers, who have been served notices by police and pointed out that besides organising the bullfights, which are banned by the court the organizers had sold alcohol without permission.
“At Benaulim where bull fights were organised recently they had set up illegal bars where all types of liquor was sold and this consumption of alcohol resulted in fights that got the police involved and also in trouble,” Vijai said and added that the DGP had issued a memorandum to police personnel for allowing the bullfights to be held.
Apparently at Benaulim where the fight was organised the bet was of Rs 40 lakh and the owners of the winning bull collected their amount and went away. However, the losers were sore over losing such a huge amount and to ventilate their frustration they turned violent and started beating anybody they could find.
Churchill said the bullfight organizers had upset the applecart and should have restrained themselves from organising the fights clandestinely.
