CURCHOREM: Reacting angrily to those traders and residents of flats around Curchorem market who have been discarding garbage behind the Kadamba bus stand, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral has directed Curchorem Police to take strict action against those creating nuisance in the market.
He voiced his sentiments while attending a cleanliness drive organized by an NGO at Curchorem market on Friday.
Seeing the waste and garbage behind the bus stand, he summoned Curchorem Police Inspector Ravindra Dessai and asked him to direct the Beat Police to keep strict vigil on those throwing waste and garbage at public places in the market and to arrest them under suitable sections of IPC.
“Despite my efforts and repeated requests to public to keep the market clean, I found plastic on roads and waste/garbage behind the bus stand. I immediately directed the team of Garbage Disposal Management and Technology (GDMT) to clean the area under the street cleaning programme,” said Cabral.
Speaking to media persons, PI Dessai said that he would put up notices at all public places and will convene a meeting with shop owners and residents from flats in the market to urge them not to throw waste in open.
“If they do not listen, they will be booked under the law for creating nuisance at public places,” warned PI Dessai.
It may be recalled that Cabral had undertaken a special drive in July to create awareness on the need to keep the market clean. He had urged trader and public not to throw paper or dry waste in open spaces at the market, but to put the garbage in litters bins installed in the market. He had also requested traders and public to put their waste into polythene bags and to hand over these bags to the GDMT collection agent visiting the area everyday.
