MLA slams govt for not taking any steps to control virus

Margao legislator calls upon Health Min to start community testing in Azad Nagar, Maria Bandh, Colmorod & Calconda

MARGAO: Reacting to the sudden spike in cases in and around the ESI Hospital Margao, local MLA and Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat said it is most unfortunate that the Government has not taken any steps to control the spread of the virus in the surrounding areas.

Kamat said, “Despite rising COVID cases in and around the ESI Hospital, which is now designated as COVID Hospital, the Government has not taken steps to control the spread of the virus in the surrounding areas. The government needs to take up COVID swab testing of all the people in the surrounding areas, failing which “COVID Bomb” will explode, which will lead to complete collapse of COVID Healthcare Mechanism,”.

“I demand that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane visit the area with a high level medical team and order immediate start of community testing in areas of Azad Nagar, Maria Bandh, Colmorod and Calconda. It is also important to take up testing in thickly populated areas of Margao” he suggested.

“The people of Margao extended complete support to the Government and co-operation to the authorities in its fight against coronavirus. However, the Government has not taken note of this co-operative approach of Margao residents. The government has adopted a lethargic approach in safeguarding the health of Madgaonkars,” he alleged.

“I once again urge that immediate steps be taken to do COVID swab testing in various localities of Margao,” he requested.
