MLA slams water shortage issues

PANJIM: Expressing fear about the possibility of acute water shortage in the coming months, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte criticised the PWD Department for the present deficiency in water supply.

Pointing out that the residents of his constituency have been facing water supply issues and that they had earlier protested as well, the  former Minister questioned why the State government and Chief Minister is not assigning priority to these issues.

“We are asking that the PWD increases the water supply to the area via a separate pipeline. Already there is a shortfall of three MLD as per what is supposed to be supplied. These are the problems and demands for the last seven months but no action has been taken,” he added.

He also criticised how the government was sending police force to deal with locals whenever they came to the streets to protest the water supply in the area, instead of sending the PWD engineers concerned to assess and solve the issues.

He also said that he was informed about a temporary solution being put in place where water supply to some other area was being stopped and felt this was ill-conceived as this would create problems for people of that area.  “In the months of April and May the water levels drop,” warned Khaunte while lamenting that people will be affected the most if the situation doesn’t improve at the earliest.
