MARGAO: Nationalist Congress Party MLA Churchill Alemao has appealed to the government to give time for trawler owners who have returned with a catch to unload and sell the fish in the market and wondered why the government was keen to sell preserved fish to Goans when fresh fish is available.

He said along with Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues and MLAs Francis Silveira, Clafacio Dias and Wilfred alias Babashan D’Sa, he had met and discussed the met with the chief minister on Tuesday and that the chief minister promised to consider his demand.

“Once they unload their catch and go out to sea, they will not return for another fortnight by which time the lockdown period will be over,” he said adding that there are many trawlers that have returned during the lockdown though they had left for the seas before the lock down was announced.

“They have fresh fish with them which can be consumed by Goans instead of the formalin laced fish from the cold storage,” he said.
