MLA urges govt to release funds for VPs

PONDA: With the monsoon season likely to commence from the first week of June, MGP leader and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Sunday urged the State government to release funds to the panchayats to carry out the pre-monsoon works.

Dhavalikar said that since the cleaning work of the water drains is given to the panchayats from the PWD, the government should immediately sanction the required fund to the panchayats to clean the water drains within eight days before the arrival of monsoon.

He said, “The drainages are already filled with debris, mud and garbage and already pre-monsoon showers that has commenced has exposed the fact.”

He asked the government to provide fund of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh for panchayats with 11 wards, Rs one to Rs 1.5 lakh with seven wards and Rs 2 lakh with nine wards.

He also urged the government to provide Rs 25,000 each to those panchayats, who cleared trees on their own, which got uprooted due to the cyclone.
