MLA wants MMC CO fined for b’day ‘violations’

MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday demanded that the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer who was seen celebrating his birthday in a viral video be fined for the violations.

“The people have lost their trust in the Government due to these deeds. The incident commander of COVID if holds a party and feeds the same cake to the invitees should be fined for that act. If the Government doesn’t do that then it has no moral right to fine anyone,” he said.

“Our party won’t keep quiet if such all-party celebrations are held with some ministers’ sycophants, hafta collectors and sopo contract desiring persons,” he warned.

“They want to show that the Chief Officer has become the boss and that he has become the government’s son-in-law,” he alleged.

The Goa Municipal Employees Association general secretary Anil Shirodkar also criticised the Chief Officer for violating social distancing and also for not wearing mask.

“I haven’t seen such an irresponsible officer and we demand strict action against this officer,” said Anil.
