PANJIM: St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira along with the engineers of the Water Resources Department (WRD) and Soil Conservation of the Agriculture Department on Monday inspected the Dhamda bundhs.
Azossim-Mandur Sarpanch Ajit Bacal and Dhamda Khazan Tenants’ Association chairman Gokuldas Naik were present for the inspection.
Monday’s inspection was a follow-up to the one held by the mamlatdar’s office the previous day, the report of which has been prepared by the talathi.
Silveira said that he spoke to the WRD Minister to expedite the matter as the damage to the bundhs caused by Cyclone Tauktae needs to be rectified as soon as possible as the monsoons are approaching.
Silveira said besides the Agriculture Department, he had apprised the Revenue Minister as well, as he wants the work to be carried out on a war footing once the estimates are prepared.
He feared that if the 3.5-km long bundh is not repaired, saline water will seep into the fields.
