MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has complained that the Chief of Ram Sene Pramod Muthalik is disturbing the communal harmony of India, especially in Goa and Karnataka.
In a letter, Reginaldo has requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take up the issue of the threats being held out by Muthalik to the Hope Recovery Center in Piranwadi, Belgaum with his Karnataka counterpart B S Yeddyurappa.
“According to a recent report, Pramod Muthalik of Sri Ram Sene is back to his old terror ways of disturbing the communal harmony of India especially in Goa and Karnataka. This time the Sri Ram Sena chief has threatened to burn down Hope Recovery Centre in Piranwadi in Belgaum within a span of two weeks,” he wrote.
He said that the centre run by Claretian priests provides rehabilitation to drug addicts and alcoholics without discrimination of any caste or creed. Most importantly, he said, this centre’s yeomen service of rehabilitation is not only availed by patients from Maharashtra and Karnataka but also many liquor and drug addicts even from Goa, too.
Reginaldo said that he has personal knowledge that drug addicts and alcoholics from Goa to Hope Recovery Centre.
Condemning Pramod Muthalik for “spewing venom and issuing threats” against the Hope Recovery Centre, Reginaldo asserted that “no Church (activity) is involved in the humanitarian effort for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and alcoholics at the Hope Recovery Centre.”
Reginaldo emphasised that the Centre preaches respect for all religions and accepts all patients.
Maintaining that Muthalik has no respect for the rule of law, Reginaldo has urged the chief minister to take up the issue with Yeddyurappa.
