MARGAO: Slamming the BJP for murdering democracy, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the acts of the Congress MLAs have proved their long-standing accusation that Congress is the B-team of BJP.
Addressing a late night media briefing in Benaulim, AAP Goa president Adv Amit Palekar pointed out that Congress itself confirming that two MLAs had planned on joining the BJP, reinforces what AAP has been saying all along that ‘a vote for Congress is a vote for BJP’.
Criticising the BJP for trying to destroy the Opposition through horse trading, not just in Goa, but across the country, Palekar gave an assurance that the AAP would never do such a thing and they would remain loyal to the voters and the cause of the public.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said AAP would show that the party is the voice of Goa on the first day of the Assembly session and said that the party would take up the issues faced by the people.
He said that voters from such Congress constituencies would have put their faith in their MLAs to raise questions on their behalf in the Assembly and given that these MLAs are now thinking of joining BJP, it is clear they do not care about these issues.
“Velim MLA Cruz Silva and I call upon the public to send us your questions that you would want to raise in the Assembly and we will do that. We are focusing on all of Goa and not just our two constituencies. We have volunteers in all constituencies who will fight for your issues,” Viegas added.
Viegas added that by the time the Assembly session ends, the other Congress MLAs could also have defected to BJP.
Silva added that the work of the legislator is not to jump parties but to work for the cause of the public and that AAP would focus on the public and not any selfish personal interests.
Palekar further emphasised on the need to strengthen the anti-defection law.
