PANJIM: Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo on Thursday said in the House that political reasons kept the Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue unsolved.
“MoI is a long-pending issue and it was kept pending due to political reasons. Our government failed to resolve the issue,” Lobo said. “We should not mix education and politics. The time has come to solve the issue,” the BJP MLA said suggesting that the choice of MoI at primary level should be with parents.
Lobo urged all the MLAs to unite on the MoI issue in the interest of students and education. Pratapsingh Rane also appealed to the government not to politicise the MoI issue.
and resolve it at the earliest. “MoI is a very touchy subject. If you want every child to take up education, then it should be the parent who should take decision in which medium his or her child goes for,” he said.
Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco sought to know by when the government intends to resolve the MoI issue. “The government-constituted advisory committee is yet to submit the report. When are we going to see a solution to the issue? Government needs to see, that the issue is resolved at the earliest,” he said.
