MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has agreed to fulfill the demands of the Council Workers Union and have come to an amicable settlement and have subsequently discussed demands of grade pay and arrears, MACP benefits, regularisation of workers (LDC, daily-rated workers) and payment of overtime from November 2015 and others. Most of the demands have been settled.
The Chief Officer attended the meeting and has said that most of the demands have been settled.
“The regularisation has been sent to the government and as far as the extension of the MACP and grade pay benefits are concerned they have been agreed,” Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said. He also clarified that the extension of the overtime benefits was not possible due to the norms of the 7th Pay Commission.
The Goa Municipal Employees Union President Keshav Prabhu and the MMC employees attended the meet.
It may be recalled that the workers had threatened a pen-down strike if the demands were not met and the MMC arranged a meeting and settled the matter before any such action was taken.
Surprisingly, no representative of the Margao Municipal Union turned up at the meeting. The MMC has set a deadline of October for the settlement.
