VASCO: The repair and renovation work of the Mormugao Municipal Council building will be taken up in phase wise. The ceiling and roofing work of the building will be completed by the end of May and the internal work will resume later, informed Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) engineer, on Thursday.

The much awaited renovation and repair of the municipal building, roofing and ceiling works will be completed by the end of this month and later the other internal works will commence, said Pradeep Rane, GSUDA Engineer.

He further said that the works will be taken up in phase wise. Once the roofing of the municipal school section is completed then the municipal staff will be shifted there and then the municipal office area work will be started and after that the work at the ground floor will be taken up.

When asked about the reason for halting the roofing work for few days, Pradeep informed that there was an unavailability of oxygen cylinders, which is used for fabrication and other repair related works since the government put restriction. Therefore, we had to apply for the permission from the Deputy Collector for oxygen cylinders for the work, which was granted recently. The work will now resume  fully.

It may be recalled that this is the major project which has been taken up by the MMC and is being executed by the GSUDA to renovate the Portuguese era municipality building structure.
