MMC chief directs staff to keep one gate of New Market open daily

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Pooja Naik on Monday came personally to open the New Market and directed the municipal staff to open one gate of the market every day.

At around 10 am Naik visited the New Market and directed the staff to open one gate following which two shopkeepers immediately opened their stores and attended to the people standing in a queue.

“One gate of the market will be opened everyday from 9 am to 12 noon,” said Pooja Naik and directed the municipal staff to do so. On Monday morning the SGPDA market and New Market remained closed but at the Gandhi Market, one gate was open and a store was selling provisions with people standing in queue maintaining social distance as police maintained a strict vigil.

PROVISIONS IN CHANDOR: Chandor Cavorim sarpanch Edward D’Silva along with panchayat members arranged for vegetables and fish to be sold to people in the village. A truckload of vegetables was unloaded at the tinto.

However, as the provisions were provided from one place there was a huge queue with people grumbling that since other panchayat members were co-operating the distribution could have been through three different places with the other two in Cavorim and Cotta.
