VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council has cleared the overhead data and cable TV wires at Swatantra Path ahead of Shigmotsav. The overhead wires were posing a potential threat to the Shigmotsav parade as well as the common commuters.
Since the wires could get entangled with the floats and slow down the Shigmotsav parade, the MMC have assured the public to clear the road of the dangling wires on an immediate basis.
As Goa is in the midst of the Shigmotsav celebrations, Vasco will host the Shigmo parade on April 3, 2024 at Swatantra Path.
“For so many years, the performing groups face a lot of difficulty while performing with the large coloured flags, artificial swords, and other festive items. These tall items often get tangled with the data and cable TV wires. So to ease this problem and to make Swatantra Path a beautiful place we have taken this initiated under the leadership of the Vasco MLA” Shami Salkar, MMC Councillor said.
Strict timings to be followed: The Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Deepesh Priolkar on Thursday said that Shigmotsav floats parade in Vasco will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 4 pm to 10 pm, in view of model code of conduct in force for the Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a press conference in the presence of Mormugao Nagarik Shigmotsav Samiti members, Priolkar said that floats parade will end strictly by 10 pm and will not be allowed to continue beyond it.
Priolkar said that due to conduct of conduct, there are certain restrictions and the organisers will have to ensure that there was no violation of any sort and that all care will be taken to strictly adhere to the timings.
According to Priolkar, a screening committee will ensure that no float will have any political views or any political images.
