VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council has started coming down heavily on the footpath encroachments all over the commercial town area.
A municipal team on Friday cleared several Bhelpuri and Panipuri stalls which were operating on pavements and public footpaths.
The NGO Goa First had complained against the illegal businesses on public payments and roads. The MMC had earlier passed order to clear the encroachments within the municipal areas. The market inspectors were ordered to take action in this matter. On Thursday, the inspectors removed these encroachments behind MMC building, near Vasco Residency, Children’s park and St Andrew Church.
The MMC has assured to continue the action against these encroachments.
It may also be noted that these small time roadside eateries reportedly don’t have any certification from Health Department or FSSAI.
