MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has warned of strict action if vendors found selling non-essential goods in the municipal markets.
Vendors selling grocery items and other goods related to the rainy season were allowed to operate their business since Monday, as both the markets of MMC, New Market, and Gandhi markets were partially opened. However, on Tuesday yet again it was noticed that the shops selling non-essential goods were open.
Speaking to the media Agnelo said markets are opened partially. Shops selling grocery items and rainy goods were allowed to remain open with restrictions.
“Today and yesterday also we have noticed that shops selling other goods such as clothes, jewellery, etc were opened. But our team led by market inspectors crackdown on such businesses and forced them to close the shops”, he stated.
He also informed that the order pertaining to curfew is very much clear and MMC will take strict action if shops, which are not permitted to operate, are found open again.
It may be noted that since Monday the movement of people has increased in Margao. Besides, grocery shops and goods related to the rainy season several other vendors are doing their business openly. Mobile, electrical goods selling shops, hardware, and even jewellery shops were noticed doing business.
