MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Dr Babita Prabudesai said she was even considering revoking the trade licence granted to Sabina hotel at the old bus stand for the owner’s irresponsible behaviour in dumping hotel waste in open spaces.
Pointing out that the person who is running Sabina Hotel also has a restaurant named Hangout at Chowgule College and reminded that as he had dumped plastic cups and hotel waste outside Hangout within three days of its inauguration, she had to issue a notice and fine him for that offence.
“However, as he came and apologised I waived the fine and fortunately he has not repeated the crime since then. However, it is totally irresponsible behaviour to dump the hotel waste in the open place like the way he did,” she said.
She argued that if the bins were removed, he could have checked with the council where to dump the waste instead of just keeping it at any open space and added that the council does not provide bins to hotels to store their garbage, the bins have to be procured by the owners while the council would only collect the waste.
Following her complaint to the Margao Town police, the person was arrested and she has now asked the chief officer to follow up the matter.
