MARGAO: Department of Public Grievances has directed the Margao Municipal Council to conduct an inquiry into the complaint lodged by the Aquem Ground Bachao Association in respect of “void and illegal resolution” passed by the Civic body on July 2 on the question of license renewal for a housing project on the Costa ground.
Under Secretary Public Grievances Siddhi Halarnekar further asked the MMC Chief Officer to take appropriate action in the matter and convey to the complainant Adv Jawahar Dias on the action taken on his complaint. The Chief Officer has been directed to complete the inquiry within three weeks. The department has apparently sought details from the Chief Officer on the controversial resolution based on a reference made by the Chief Minister.
Adv Dias of Aquem Ground Bachaco Association had knocked the doors of the Department of Public Grievances, contending that the resolution passed by the civic body on July 2 to grant renewal of license for a housing project was void and illegal. He had further stated in his complaint that the Municipality had adopted the resolution for renewal of license when it had already passed a resolution for the acquisition of the Costa ground.
Association Secretary Andrew Sequeira spoke of an intensified agitation to ensure that the Costa ground is retained for recreational needs of Aquemkars. “The ongoing movement to retain the Costa ground for posterity has been gaining support with each passing day. We will take the movement to its logical conclusion come what may,” he said, while demanding that the government acquire the ground and protect the interests of the local youth and citizens.
