MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has drawn flak from general public over the shortlisted candidates for the driver post. The list contains 18 names of which 12 names are apparently of non-Goan or migrants. People ask whether there are no Goan takers for these jobs.
MMC has shortlisted 18 candidates for 10 posts of heavy vehicle drivers. Of the 18 only 6 names look to be of Goans and the rest are of migrants.
Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik had written to the Road Transport Officer to take the driving test for heavy commercial vehicle for the shortlisted drivers.
The names in the list have made the people of Margao wonder whether Goans are not applying for the jobs or is it due to lack of publicity of the recruitment process.
The Shadow Council for Margao says that if proper publicity was not given, then, the Council should once again advertise and give wide publicity so that Goan unemployed drivers can get the job.
Incidentally, the only criterion for the job is that the candidate should possess a heavy vehicle driving licence, which could have been issued at any State. Domicile and language are not important for the job.
