MMC expresses high hopes as bids to be opened today

Feels burning issue of waste disposal will be resolved

MARGAO: A positive response has been received from the bidders with regard to setting up of two 25 TPD capacity biomethanation plants at Sonsoddo with electricity generation. 

The Margao Municipal Council has expressed high hopes towards the Expression of Interest, as the prospective bids will be opened on Wednesday (September 22). 

Speaking to Herald, MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira informed that few bidders have shown the interest to set up two 25 TPD biomethanation plants at Sonsoddo. 

“The bids will be opened on September 22. We have high hopes that something positive will come up so that the burning issue of waste disposal plaguing the commercial capital will be resolved,” he stated. 

He further informed that the last date of submission of Expression of Interest to the civic body ended on September 20. 

According to the chairperson, the civic body is in the process of setting up a five TPD biomethanation plants at the South Goa Planning and Development Authority market, besides two other biomethanation plants have been tendered. 

Reportedly, in the meeting held a few months before, S Joglekar, an official of the Department of Environment, had suggested  two 25 TPD biomethanation plants as a permanent solution to resolve the Sonsoddo problem. 

MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes is on the record that the technology to be used by the interested company should be economically viable. 

MMC is eager to know the technology, as well as the cost of the biomethanation project from the prospective companies once the bids are opened. 

Design, build, supply, install erect, commissioning and commercial operation of the biogas plant of 25 tonnes capacity, besides operation and maintenance of the plant, etc. are included in the project.
