MMC fears land grabbing of its own properties

MARGAO: Taking serious note of the issue pertaining to land grabbing Margao Municipal Council Council (MMC) have initiated a process to carry out inspections of their properties, as they fear grabbing of their land in the jurisdiction of the civic body and in other areas.

As informed by Rohit Kadam, Chief Officer, MMC a special team has been formed to verify the land owned by the civic body which is spread in the areas of Benaulim, Curtorim, besides Margao and Fatorda.

“I have asked the officials to conduct inspections and verify the property documents. A team will also check the status of the open spaces gifted to the civic body”, he stated.  It has been brought to the notice of the CO that there are few properties in Curtorim and Benaulim owned by the Margao Municipality, besides some donated properties in Fatorda and Margao. Shockingly, the civic body never bothered to check the status of these properties, as there are possibilities of encroachment by unknown parties.

The Chief Officer further informed that there are nearly 50 properties either donated wholly or partly, and he has prepared a list of those properties.

“The team will check the office documents and will carry out the inspections of the concerned properties. Report in this regard will be prepared in the next 15 days”, the CO added.

The team will be headed by Damodar Shirodkar, and Councillor Ravindra (Raju) Naik,

Sadanand Naik, Veeraj Naik Bholnekar and Vinod Kotharkar are the members.

Chief Officer said “The team may also take feedback from the local ward councillor as and when required. Also the team may place this report within next 1 month at the next council meeting so as to take further decision, if any. The team may take help of the retired municipality surveyor if required.”
