MARGAO, JAN 14
The Margao Municipal Council is hoping against hope that bidders will turn up for an auction to clear the material seized during anti-encroachment drive.
This is the second time the civic body will be holding the auction in two days after the first attempt went abegging for want of any bidders.
The MMC had planned to dispose off mattresses and pillows seized during the anti-encroachment drive. On Tuesday, the Civic body set an upset price of Rs 15,450 for the bidders, but the price failed to attract the bidders.
It is learnt that just one bidder came to inquire with the auction, but he soon disappeared from the corridors of the Civic body after he was told that the upset price was Rs 15,450.
MMC Chief Officer, Y B Tawde said the Civic body has now rescheduled the auction for Thursday and is now hoping that the bidders will take away the materials.
The Civic body is anxious to dispose off the materials since the goods have been occupying space at the entrance to the Municipal building, with questions being raised over the delay in clearing the goods.
