MMC in talks with Lobo to set up SWTP

VASCO: Stating that the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) plans to set up new solid waste treatment plant with more capacity in near future, chairperson Nandadeep Raut on Wednesday informed that the civic body is in talks with Minister for Science and Technology, Michael Lobo to set up the facility, which will generate bio-fuel and manure.
Raut said garbage dumped at the Sada solid waste dumping site has increased and existing solid waste needs to be segregated and later treated, which is a time consuming process. The new solid waste treatment plant will accept the waste directly without segregation. The final output of the waste treatment from this plant would be bio-fuel and manure.
The chairperson informed that for the new plant the funds will be utilised totally by the agency. Raut said he met Lobo and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and discussed the issue of having a new solid waste treatment plant.
