MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has initiated a special weekend recovery drive with a bid to ensure prompt recovery of the large amounts of outstanding dues owed to the Margao Municipal Council by business establishments and citizens.
MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has initiated this special weekend drive on Saturday (October 9) from 10 am to 1 pm. Chairperson Lyndon Pereira and his team of council are likely to join the drive.
The Chief Officer said that even though it is a second Saturday, Administration, Taxation, Technical, Accounts, Recovery, Sanitary and Municipal Library Departments have been issued a special order to remain present during these hours on Saturday as an additional effort to ensure tax payers get a rare opportunity to repay the taxes owed to the MMC.
The CO is keen on resolving this matter at the earliest and has also instructed the employees of MMC that absence on this special recovery day will not be acceptable for the extra hours on Saturday towards this drive.
The Chairperson, vice-chairperson and councillors are also requested by the CO to take active part in this special drive to help this council recover its rightful dues.
When the municipality is trying its best to cater from creator to the grave (birth certificate to death certificate and all in between to facilitate), why should the MMC be given a step motherly treatment at the time of annual tax payment, wonders the CO.
He further informed that following the special weekend drive, the MMC will review its strategy to recover the outstanding dues.
“Those who have outstanding amounts have been specially requested to clear the dues before the entire situation get into a more proactive recovery mode. Those above Rs 10,000 will be targeted on Saturday by serving them the notices,” he informed.
As informed by the CO on Friday recovery team has managed to generate the revenue of Rs 21 lakh.
