MMC inspects Mapusa Vegetable Market; Vendors Demand Urgent Maintenance

Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nutan Bicholkar, Vice Chairman Sushant Harmalkar, and MLA Joshua D’Souza inspected Mapusa vegetable market on Wednesday and addressed a slew of pressing issues raised by the local vegetable vendors. The vendors expressed their frustration over the lack of maintenance in the market, citing several ongoing problems.

The vendors reported that broken bulbs have not been replaced, and non-functional fans have been left unattended for several months, creating an uncomfortable environment for both vendors and customers. Additionally, they highlighted the severe waterlogging that occurs during the rainy season, exacerbated by leaking roofs. This situation poses a significant risk to the vendors’ livelihoods, especially with the heavy rains approaching.

Chairperson Nutan Bicholkar acknowledged the grievances and assured the vendors that their concerns would be addressed promptly. Vice Chairman Sushant Harmalkar emphasized the importance of maintaining the market infrastructure to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all. MLA Joshua D’Souza echoed these sentiments, pledging to oversee the necessary repairs and improvements.

The vendors have urged the Mapusa Municipality to prioritize the maintenance work before the onset of heavy rains, to prevent further deterioration of the market conditions and to safeguard their businesses. The MMC has committed to taking swift action to resolve these issues and improve the overall market environment.

As the rainy season approaches, the vendors and customers are hopeful that the promised interventions will be implemented swiftly, ensuring a functional and safe market space for everyone.
