MMC inspects New, Gandhi markets to resolve traders’ grievances

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Market Committee on Monday inspected the New Market and Gandhi Market in order to resolve the grievances put forth by the traders.
MMC Vice Chairperson Dipali Saval, who is also the chairman of Market Committee, along with other members inspected both the markets.
It is pertinent to note that several proposals of traders are pending before the municipality pertaining to repairs and transfers of the shops. Besides, there is a strong demand from the New Market Traders Association with regard to putting up of a shed in the market.
Speaking to the media persons, Dipali said the committee members have inspected both the markets.

“There are proposals from the traders regarding repairs and transfers of the shops. We have inspected the markets and noted down all the issues. There is a request from the few shop owners about the repairs, besides few has applied for the transfers of the shops,” she stated.
Dipali further said that Market Committee will be having a meeting on August 24, to decide upon the applications and proposals.
“The decision will be taken considering the legal aspects, and a tender will be floated in order to carry out the repair works,” she informed.
Reportedly, a few days back the New Market Traders Association had a meeting with the MMC, demanding to carry out the urgent repair works of the market, as the conditions are pathetic. They had also demanded to put up a shed at the earliest.
On the other hand, there was also demand from the Gandhi Market Traders Association to repair the market.
