MMC manages to resolve water supply issue at Sonsoddo

MARGAO: Finally, the Margao Municipal Council managed to resolve the issue of water supply at Sonsoddo dump yard after the daily-wage labourers expressed their inconvenience caused by lack

of water availability. Gaurish Sankhwalkar, Chief Officer, told O Heraldo that the water connection has been restored and the civic body was not aware about the issue.

A day before, several daily-wage workers engaged in handling the waste at the site, had complained that with no water supply for drinking or washing, they were forced to approach nearby households to get water.

The non-payment of the electricity bills was the reason the taps were running dry at the dump. The power connection was managed by the agency engaged in bioremediation of the legacy waste at the site, however, work has been stopped due to rains and it resulted in non-payment of the bills. “After the issue was brought to the notice by the labourers on Monday, we immediately tried to resolve it. Now, the water supply has been restored at the site,” the Chief Officer said.
