MARGAO: The PWD tender to build the overhead water tank at the old fish market hangs in balance with the Margao Municipal Council toying with the idea of shifting the location of the tank to the Gandhi market.
PWD officials in private admitted that the contractor may have second thoughts in executing the work taking into account the cost factor given the fact that the tender was floated more than a year ago. “We keep our fingers crossed whether the contractor will accept the work at the new location if the site is shifted from the old fish market to the Gandhi market”, remarked a PWD official.
The official said the contractor was initially hesitant to take up the work as the tender was floated a year ago. Last week, the contractor had agreed to carry out the work and based on his acceptance the PWD had forwarded the file to the head office for approval.
Meanwhile, sources in the municipality said the civic body would take a final call on shifting of the tank location after a Council meeting.
Sources said the proposal for the shifting of the over head water tank will be placed before the Council for an appropriate decision.
The MMC has mooted the shifting of the tank location as it has finalised plans to build a multi-storey parking lot at the old fish market.
