MARGAO: With district Collector N D Agrawal on Monday ruling that the question of banning sales and exhibitions in the commercial capital falls within the domain of the Margao Municipal Council, the civic body has convened a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss the issue threadbare and to take appropriate decision.
Agrawal made his stand clear on the row over the banning of exhibitions and sales when a delegation of Margao’s new market traders led by President Vinod Shirodkar and Margao Municipal Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar and Chief Officer Deepali Naik called on him on Monday noon.
“Whether sales and exhibitions are to be banned or not falls within the purview of the Margao Municipality. The Collector has no role to play in the matter. Our role is restricted to security and law and order problem, Agrawal told the delegation.
The MMC Chief Officer later said a special meeting of the Margao Municipality has been called on Wednesday evening to discuss the contentious issue of permissions for sales and exhibitions in the town. “In my note I have only mentioned about the fees to be charged for the exhibitions and to discuss the representation received from the Margao traders demanding a ban on sales”, she said.
