VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council has offered Rs 1.25 lakh to the Damodar Bhajani Saptah Ustav Samiti to commemorate the 125th year of the Damodar Saptah festival starting from August 10, this year.
The decision was taken by Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Girish Borker along with all the 25 councillors.
Borker handed over the cheque to Paresh Joshi, who is the president of the Damodar Bhajani Saptah Utsav Samiti in the presence of all the councillors.
Borker said that it was a historic moment as the port town was celebrating the 125th year of the famous Saptah festival. “I am very fortunate to witness the occasion and also lucky to be the Mormugao chairperson on this historic moment,” he said.
He said that besides offering the cash amount, the council has also assured the Samiti that it will give all possible help and assistance so as to ensure that this Saptah was celebrated in a grand manner.
Borker said that the Council has asked the occupants of buildings along the F L Gomes Road and Swatantra Path to get their buildings illuminated with lightings to mark the historic moment.
He said that all measures will be taken to ensure that the devotees coming from far places for the Saptah festival are not inconvenienced and to make their visit a memorable one.
