VASCO: To provide transparent and corruption free administration, the Mormugao Municipal Council has launched ‘Do not pay bribe’ initiative.
Under this initiative, any person or whistle blower can give complaints of bribe demand made by municipal employees to the MMC chief officer either by writing a confidential letter or by posting WhatsApp message to him. A public notice in this regards has been displayed at all prominent locations in the municipal building in Vasco.
Speaking about the initiative, Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said that the objective of launching ‘Do not Pay Bribe’ initiative is to provide transparent and corruption free service to the people visiting MMC for their works.
“People from all walks of life come to the municipality for their works. People should not pay any bribe. However, sometimes people either voluntarily pay bribe or succumb to the pressures from bribe receiver. To eliminate all such malpractices and to provide free and corruption free administration to the people we have launched ‘Do not Pay Bribe’ initiative,” Fernandes said.
He informed that currently the municipality has installed few complaint boxes and displayed notices at prominent places in the municipal building. “People or whistle blowers can use these boxes to drop in their complaints about bribe demand by our staff. These boxes will be opened by me once a week and without naming the whistle blower or complaint I will take necessary action in the matter after initiating internal inquiry,” Fernandes said.
“I want people to come freely and lodge their complaints before me either by writing a letter to me or by posting WhatsApp message on my official number (9850585432),” Fernandes said.
