MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council finally opened the controversial e-tender on Friday after the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes asked the Municipal Chief Officer to process the tender for execution if no specific instances of irregularities are brought to her notice.
Chief Officer Deepali Naik said her office received no objection from any quarter, including the councillors on any irregularities. But aggrieved councillors are bracing up to complain to the government, including Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister and the DMA as to how the municipality has tendered works, some of which have already been executed in the past.
The 12-member group of councillors, which has demanded suspension of the opening of the tender, has said they have not objected to the tender opening as they were certain that the Chief Officer would not do justice to them. “We now plan to take the matter to the government for a detailed probe into the entire tender episode,” remarked a councillor.
The DMA, in his letter faxed to the MMC Chief Officer, on Friday morning stated, “You were requested to verify the specific contentions raised by some councillors before issuing any work order. It is observed that the enclosures to the subject note do not indicate the “severe flaws” in the tender process and as such this office is unable to comment in the matter since carrying out the tender process is entirely within the jurisdiction of the council’s administrative machinery.”
