PANJIM: In the wake of the new demand, St Andre Legislator and local language proponent Vishnu Wagh said that those schools that had switched to English can be given grants if they use Konkani in the
Roman script as medium of instruction.
However, he reiterated his earlier position that government should give grants only to those schools that have Marathi or Konkani as MoI.
In a letter written to the government MoI committee members and Director of Education Anil Powar, Wagh says that grants can be given to schools having Urdu or Kannada as medium of instruction as long as there is specific demand from their locality, provided they compulsorily have Konkani or Marathi as one subject in the curriculum.
According to Wagh because of the last government’s policy many schools were permitted to shift to English. These can now be given grants provided they compulsorily have either Konkani or Marathi as one subject.
