A day after the civic body cracked the whip against the tax defaulters, including a couple of petrol pumps, a couple of defaulters made their presence felt in the civic body and cleared the tax arrears amounting to Rs 6.5 lakh.
MMC Chief Officer Naveen S L told the media that the civic body will continue the drive against tax defaulters given that the civic body had raised bills and had issued warrants against the major defaulters.
In the meantime, the civic body on Thursday returned the goods attached from a city based petrol pump after the petroleum company cleared part payment of the rent amounting to Rs 13 lakh.
Civic officials have exuded confidence of recovering the Rs 80 lakh dues from the fuel pumps standing on the municipal property near the municipal garden.
