MMC playing politics over Sonsoddo garbage: GFP

MARGAO: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai alleged that the BJP-Congress joint venture in the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is stopping the work of setting up the garbage disposal mechanism at Sonsoddo.

He has asked the Chief Minister whether the State government is serious on the Sonsoddo issue.

Claiming the Sonsoddo issue is a legacy issue for him, Vijai said, “I want to tell the leaders and the councillors of the BJP-Congress joint venture in MMC that the Sonsoddo issue is a legacy issue for me. The MLA of Fatorda back then was Damu Naik and the Chief Minister was Digambar Kamat. The leaders then had done what they wanted to do. For the last eight years, however, I have not brought hurdles in any of the attempts made to improve the situation at Sonsoddo.”

“The government, the BJP and the Congress also want to play politics over the issue. Till date, politics is going on. There is no answer to why the BJP councillors are opposing the proposal sent by their own government,” Vijai asked.

“We are not hell-bent on getting this proposal. But, the government has to come clear whether they are interested to solve the Sonsoddo issue or not,” Vijai demanded.

“The Congress and BJP joint venture is not new to me, this venture has been going on in Fatorda for a long time,” he claimed.

Vijai asked the Chief Minister whether he is serious on solving the garbage issue in Goa.

“Swachh Bharat was started by the Prime Minister of India. Has the State government compromised on that,” he asked.

Vijai challenged the councillors opposing the proposal to tell what they have done to solve the garbage issue.
