Margao: Less than one and a half month has elapsed since the Chief Officer of Margao Municipality, Deepali Naik was transferred. Naik, who has been acting tough and fast in several operations of the MMC in her previous and new stint has been now been replaced by the most frequent officer, Yashwant Tawde who will take over the office for the 7th time. Some important work like the administrative approvals for the hiring of labourers, pre-monsoon work and tendering of the covering of Sonsodo was taken up by Deepali in her one and a half month stint.
It is rumoured that Deepali Naik may have been transferred for acting tough on the construction project in Margao market which has been alleged to be in violation of a lot of norms. Naik had also recently had a tussle with the ruling council group on the allegations and counter allegations on clearing of files. It may be recalled that the former MMC IAS Chief Officer Naveen LS was also transferred after taking action against an alleged illegal restaurant in Margao.
In the last 10 years of the Margao Municipal Council administration, the office of the Chief Officer has seen over 17 different officials amongst which Yashwant Tawde is the most common. Deepali Naik will retain her charge of Vasco Municipal Council Chief Officer. Tawde, meanwhile has resumed charge. Naik had come in to replace Siddhivinayak Naik who had had come in to replace Y B Tawde. Y B Tawde was incidentally rumoured to have fallen out with the ruling council group for not clearing files while Siddhivinayak’s decisions that were in favour of the council group on Shigmo had allegedly led to their transfers.
