MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council on a single day recovered nearly Rs 26.50 lakh as tax dues, which is the highest so far.
According to MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, the recovery figures of council on a single day that is on Thursday touched to Rs 26.50 lakh.
“It is also brought to my notice that many of the big housing complexes have defaulted in payment of house taxes. Similarly big commercial establishments are run without trade licences,” he informed.
He further said in one complex having 238 premises only 30 are found to be paying licence fees. 63 commercial establishments are not even assessed for house tax.
“It’s time to target these big commercial complexes, as the simplification of processes is underway,” said the CO.
He has also requested its citizens to come forward to pay their house tax which is not paid for several years resulting in huge arrears.
The CO has cautioned business establishments run without trade licences and said it cannot be tolerated and will be dealt with a strong arm.
“Please don’t force me to go for harsh action,” he warned.
