MAPUSA: The Mapusa municipality has requested the North Goa Collector to issue direction for desilting the Tar River in the town.
In a letter, Municipal Chief Officer Clen Madeira has requested the Collector to issue direction under Section 33 of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 to desilt Tar River.
In his letter, the chief officer observed that the municipal chairman had bought to the notice of the authorities concerned about the illegally mud filling at various places along the NH66 at Gausawado which has blocked the nullah connecting to the Tar River. This, he said, would lead to flooding during monsoon.
As a remedial measure, the chief officer requested the Collector to issue direction for desilting the river.
