MMC shortlists eight Ganesh immersion sites

MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) in a joint meeting shortlisted eight Ganesh idol immersion sites.

MMC chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar convened a meeting of Sarvajanik Ganesh ustav mandals representatives, officials from Bardez Mamlatdar office, Block Development Office, Mapusa police, Traffic Cell and Fire Station.

They also discussed various issues like immersion sites, measures to prevent crowding during idol immersion like time schedules for different wards, parking and Matoli Bazaar among others.

Vaigankar said, “SOPs issued by the government will be strictly implemented in celebration of Ganesh festival in order to prevent crowding. Eight idol immersion sites have been shortlisted and the council is likely to implement time schedules for Ganesh idol immersion ward wise.”

Chairperson further said that similar to last year, an artificial pond will be created in the field near Shri Bodgeshwar temple.

During the meeting, the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals decided not to have cultural programme this year and strictly restrict themselves only to religious rituals.

Councilors further suggested not allowing Matoli Bazaar outside the municipal market area like last year but to have it in the municipal market itself since last year merchants in the market were affected.

Chairperson said us that a final decision has not been taken.
